How to choose a dog park: read the record, then check the gate
The nearest pin is a starting point. A useful park choice depends on the boundary, the approach and the conditions your dog needs. Frihund combines public records that answer some of those questions, but different sources leave different gaps. Here is a practical way to turn a shortlist into a visit without treating missing details as facts.
Start with the detail that would make you turn back
Before looking at photos, decide what is essential: a secure enclosure, a short walk from the entrance, enough room to avoid a busy group, or a route you can use in daylight. Separate that requirement from preferences such as a bench or an attractive setting. If the essential detail is unknown, keep the listing as a possibility and check its source.
Open two or three options in the same area. Compare their source dates and available facilities. Do not rank them by how many fields are filled in alone: a richly documented park may be unsuitable, while a sparse record may describe a good place that needs a call to the operator. More data reduces uncertainty; it does not guarantee a better walk.
Three records, three different decisions
These examples analyse records in the directory. They are not park reviews or claims that Frihund has visited the locations. The source details below are read from the same stored records as the linked park pages.
Vienna: a recorded fence is a useful first filter
The municipal Alfred-Böhm-Park record supplies a positive fencing field. That is a useful reason to investigate this option if you need an enclosure. It does not describe the height, gaps, gate latch or separation from other dogs. Those are checks to make at the entrance, not promises that a directory can supply.

Denmark: a woodland name does not establish a boundary
The imported GeoFA record for Alheden hundeskov has no structured fencing value. The word “hundeskov” helps identify the type of destination, but it does not fill that gap in our data. If a secure boundary is essential, follow the source to the operator’s information before travelling. Unknown does not mean unfenced.

Espoo: an address helps you arrive, but is not an entrance survey
The Service Map record for Iivisniemenpellon koira-aitaus supplies a street address and a direct municipal place page. Use those to check the approach. A location pin or street address does not establish parking, step-free access or the exact gate. Read the operator’s directions when those details affect your visit.

Read the date and the photo separately
A recently retrieved record can describe an older source observation. A photograph can show an earlier layout or only one side of an area. Use a photo to form questions about the place, then use the operator’s current information to answer them. For example, a fence visible behind one dog does not establish that the whole area is enclosed.
Make a two-minute check at the entrance
- Read the signs for the area you are entering, rather than assuming a rule applies to the whole park.
- If you need a fence, inspect the gate and visible boundary before releasing your dog.
- Check how you would leave if the area became too busy, including whether other dogs are gathering at the gate.
- Bring the water and bags you need; an absent facilities field does not tell you what will be available.
- Use your alternative if the access, crowding or boundary does not suit the visit you planned.
When the map and the place disagree
Follow the current signs and operator information. To help the next visitor, send info@frihund.eu the park-page link, what differs, when you noticed it and an official notice if one exists. A clear correction about a moved gate or closure is more useful than a general rating.
